A Look at the Santa Fe Museum Scene

January 08, 2018

Santa Fe is known for an abundance of art and culture, including a renowned collection of destination museums. While you might be upset that Game of Thrones won’t be back until 2019, Santa Fe is home to Meow Wolf: House of Eternal Return, an art installation supported by author and local resident George R.R. Martin. And, there are nearly 20 museums to discover while staying in the area. Here are a few we wouldn’t want you to miss:

Meow Wolf: House of Eternal Return – built inside a former bowling alley, this interactive adventure will guide you through a labyrinth of color and more than 100 works by artists. Photos are encouraged, unlike many traditional exhibitions and museums.

Georgia O’Keeffe Museum – with celebrated work across the country, this museum houses the largest public collection of the artist’s work all in one place.

Museum Hill – why visit one when you can explore four in one stop? Home to four institutions, a day trip will allow you to take it all in at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian and Museum of International Folk Art. Insider’s tip: check out the café and botanical garden to unwind.
