Santa Fe's Opera House Sets the Golden Standard

Santa Fe's Opera House Sets the Golden Standard

June 03, 2019

It was the natural acoustics that first drew the Santa Fe Opera’s founders to the site. As legend has it, they rode the grounds on horseback firing off gunshots to pinpoint the perfect sonic “bowl.” The house has lived up to the standards of its setting with nods from the likes of The Wall Street Journal as the “Rolls-Royce of American summer opera” and “one of the most beloved venues in the country.” By the numbers, the open-air house has seen 2,000 performances of 170 operas by 85 composers. Of those, the house has hosted 15 world premieres and 45 American premieres. It all kicks off once again this month with opening night dinners, backstage tours, and the chance to show off your finest black-tie garb at the season’s first show, Puccini’s La Boheme.
